This is a painting showing the then new Cunard-White Star Line liner designated Hull 534 superimposed against the backdrop of the Palace of Westminster showing her great size.
She was laid down in 1930 but work soon stopped because of the great depression. Work was resumed after the merger of Cunard and the White Star line in 1933.
She was launched by Queen Mary in September 1934. www.britishpathe.com/video/534/
